When feelings overwhelm—poetry ensues

Poetry has been a fascinating tool for my human-being-ness. When I’m pummeled by intense emotion, poetry is often the only way I can cope, share, connect.

Lately, it’s been doing double duty by showing me how my creative brain is constantly at play — shaping and reshaping not only me but the worlds I build. Turns out an emotion I'm processing might belong to a character in my book. (Or the characters in my book are processing my emotions?) But it all comes together and leads me forward. However it arrives, the purpose is the same: staring at the blinding light of emotion without blinking. And reflecting it back to the world.
